(Popular pickleball lore, originally promoted by some of the co-inventors and media, has attributed the pickleball name to Pickles the dog. It was later confirmed that the true source of the game's name, coined by Joel's wife Joan, was the "pickle boat" with thrown-together crew in rowing.)
